  1. Start by preparing the walnut mixture. Grate one-third of the walnuts and finely chop the rest. Mix them with cinnamon and ginger powder, then set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the eggs. Add a pinch of salt, sugar, vanilla extract, cream cheese, lemon peel, and melted butter. Mix until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the flour and baking powder to the wet ingredients, mixing until smooth.
  4. Grease a baking tray with butter and pour one-third of the batter into it.
  5. Mix the remaining batter with one-third of the walnut mixture and 60ml of milk until well combined. Pour this mixture into the tray.
  6. Arrange the apple slices on top of the batter in the tray
  7. Sprinkle the remaining walnut mixture and a little cinnamon over the apples.
  8. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and bake the cake for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
