Potato and Meat Stew with Smoked Sausage | Tocană de cartofi și carne cu cârnați afumați

Ingredients
  • 1 piece of caesar meat, cut into thin slices (or any meat of your choice)
  • A few smoked sausages (optional, can be replaced with other meat)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 4-5 medium potatoes, cut into cubes
  • 2 carrots, cut into cubes (or grated)
  • 200 ml tomato juice (or 1 tablespoon tomato paste)
  • Bay leaf (optional, but adds flavor)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Oil, for frying
  • Water, to cover the ingredients while cooking
Instructions

    Prepare the Meat and Onion
    1. Heat a little oil in a pan over medium heat.
    2. Add the caesar meat (or other meat of your choice) and smoked sausages to the pan.
    3. Fry the meat for a few minutes until it gets some color.
    4. Add the finely chopped onion to the pan and continue frying for about 2 minutes, until the onion softens.

    Add Vegetables and Tomato
    1. While the meat and onion are cooking, peel and cut the potatoes into cubes and carrots into cubes (or grate them if you prefer).
    2. Add the tomato juice (or tomato paste) over the meat and onion mixture. Let it cook for a couple of minutes.

    Cook the Stew
    1. Add the potatoes and carrots to the pan.
    2. Pour in enough water to cover everything.
    3. Add a bay leaf for extra flavor (optional) and season with salt.
    4. Cover the pan with a lid and let it cook for about 40 minutes, or until the potatoes become soft and the flavors have blended.

    1. Once the potatoes are soft and the stew is ready, serve the dish hot.
