Missing my grandmother, today I will show you how they prepare Moldovan martyrs and saints as they are called in our area. They come out perfect every time. They are super soft, fluffy and so syrupy with honey and lots of nuts, just the way I like them. Believe me, it's hard to stop at just one portion. Let's get down to business to show you how easy they are.
-
In a large bowl, I broke two eggs, added salt, warm milk, dry yeast, sugar, after which I added bread flour.
-
When the dough started to form, I added soft butter. I put the dough on the work surface, grated the peel of an unpeeled lemon and kneaded it for 10 minutes.
-
For the syrup I used honey, warm water and the peel of an unpeeled lemon.
-
Before using it we will strain it.
-
I also grated the nut, from this quantity 6 bigger martyrs will come out
-
In total I formed 12 marbles.
-
I stretched them with the help of a rolling pin, in an approximately rectangular shape.
-
I formed 2 sticks of 50 cm each, which I braided and gave them the shape of the martyr.
-
I put them in the tray and let them rise for 30 minutes
-
I smeared them with a mixture of egg yolk and milk and put them in the oven preheated to 200g celsius for 20 minutes
