Prepare the apples:
- Wash, peel, and grate the apples.
- Measure 700 g of grated apples.
- If the apples are sweet, no sugar is needed.
- Add 1 tablespoon of cinnamon and the juice of half a lemon.
- Set aside while preparing the sponge cake.

Prepare the cake batter:
- In a large bowl, crack 4 large eggs.
- Add a pinch of salt and 100 g of sugar (adjust to taste).
- Mix well.
- Pour in 200 ml of milk and 100 ml of oil, then mix again.
- Add 1 teaspoon of baking powder and 300 g of flour.
- Mix until smooth and lump-free.
- Add vanilla extract, and optionally, lemon or orange zest.

Assemble the cake:
- Grease a baking tray with butter.
- Pour half of the batter into the tray.
- Evenly distribute the grated apples over the batter.
- Pour the remaining batter on top and smooth it with a spatula.

Bake the cake:
- Preheat the oven to 160°C (320°F).
- Bake until it passes the toothpick test (insert a toothpick into the cake; if it comes out clean, it's done).
