Prepare the bread

If your bread isn’t pre-sliced, cut it into slices (thin or thick, as you prefer).

Set aside.

Make the egg mixture

In a large bowl, crack the eggs.

Season with salt, black pepper, and any optional spices you like.

Pour in the milk and whisk until well combined.

Coat the bread

Dip each bread slice into the egg–milk mixture for just a few seconds (don’t oversoak).

Then coat one or both sides with grated cheddar cheese.

Optionally, place a slice of salami on top.

Fry

Heat a small amount of oil in a pan.

Fry the coated bread slices on both sides until golden and crispy.

Avoid adding too much oil to prevent greasiness.
