Upside-Down Orange Cake
Ingredients
For the caramelized oranges:

oranges, washed and sliced

cups sugar

cups water

tablespoons orange juice
For the cake batter:
200
grams sugar
Grated zest of 2 oranges

medium eggs

milliliters melted butter (or oil)

For the syrup:
Remaining soaking syrup
Juice of ½ blood orange

Instructions
Prepare the Oranges:
Wash the
oranges
in warm water with
baking soda
.
Grate the
orange peel
and set it aside.
Cut the
oranges
into thin slices.
In a bowl, mix
⅓ cup sugar, ½ cup water, and 2 tbsp orange juice
.
Soak the
orange slices
in this syrup for a few minutes.
Arrange the
orange slices
on the bottom of a
20 cm pan
.
Make the Cake Batter:
Mix the
200 g sugar
with the
grated orange zest
.
In a separate bowl, whisk together
eggs, yogurt, melted butter (or oil), and vanilla
.
Add
2 tbsp orange juice
and mix well.
Gradually incorporate
flour
into the mixture.
Bake the Cake:
Pour the batter over the arranged
orange slices
in the pan.
Bake in a
preheated oven at 180°C (356°F)
until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Prepare the Syrup:
In a saucepan, combine the
remaining syrup, juice of ½ blood orange, and 2 tbsp sugar
.
Simmer until slightly thickened.
Final Touch:
Once the cake is baked, let it cool for a few minutes.
Flip it upside down onto a plate so the
caramelized oranges
are on top.
Drizzle with the prepared
orange syrup
