Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs with Onion Skins and Flowers | Ouă de Paște vopsite natural cu coji de ceapă și flori

Ingredients
  • Eggs (as many as you wish to dye)
  • Water (enough to cover the eggs)
  • 1 tablespoon of baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon of vinegar
  • Abrasive sponge (for cleaning the eggs)
  • Fresh, edible plants (such as leaves or flowers from your garden)
  • Onion skins (yellow and red, the more, the better)
  • Salt (1 tablespoon)
  • Vinegar (4 tablespoons)
  • Water (about 1 liter for boiling the onion skins)
Instructions
  1. Clean the Eggs
    1. Place the eggs in a large bowl.
    2. Add water, 1 tablespoon of baking soda, and 1 tablespoon of vinegar.
    3. Use an abrasive sponge to wash the eggs thoroughly and remove any dirt or residue.
  2. Prepare the Plants and Eggs
    1. Head to your garden and pick your favorite edible plants (such as leaves or flowers). Be sure to choose safe, non-toxic plants.
    2. Fill a small bowl with water and place the plants in the water.
    3. Carefully place the plants onto the still-wet eggs, making sure they stick.
  3. Tie the Plants to the Eggs
    1. Once the plants are placed on the eggs, use a piece of string or a rubber band to secure the plants around the egg. You can also tie the plants tightly with a stick, trimming off any excess.
    2. Repeat this process for each egg you wish to dye.
  4. Prepare the Dye
    1. In a large saucepan, add onion skins (yellow and red, about as much as you have), about 1 liter of water, 1 tablespoon of salt, and 4 tablespoons of vinegar.
    2. Bring the mixture to a boil, allowing it to blanch for a few minutes until the water turns a rich, deep color.
  5. Boil the Eggs
    1. Carefully place the prepared eggs with plants into the onion dye mixture.
    2. Let them boil for about 5-7 minutes until they reach your desired color.
    3. Once done, remove the eggs from the pan and let them cool in water for about half an hour.
  6. Final Touches
    1. For a beautiful finish, you can brush the eggs with the onion skins to add a nice sheen and deepen the color.
