Ingredients
For the Mashed Potatoes:
8 potatoes (peeled and cut into pieces)
Water (enough to cover the potatoes)
Salt (to taste)
1 tablespoon butter
50 milliliters milk
100 grams cheddar cheese (grated)
Black pepper (to taste)
For the Meat and Sauce:
3 tablespoons oil
1 onion (chopped)
1 green onion (chopped)
3 cloves garlic (minced)
3 carrots (peeled and chopped)
1 zucchini (chopped)
½ red pepper (chopped)
1 small celery root (or a few celery stalks, chopped)
500 grams minced meat (beef, pork, or mixed)
Salt (to taste)
2 tablespoons tomato paste
400 milliliters meat broth
A few sprigs of thyme
Optional: 50 ml wine (red or white)
Instructions
Preparing the Mashed Potatoes
Place the potatoes in a saucepan, cover them with water, and add salt.
Boil until soft, then drain.
Mash the potatoes and mix in butter, milk, cheddar cheese, salt, and black pepper until smooth.
Cooking the Meat and Vegetables
In a well-heated pan, add 3 tbsp of oil.
Sauté the chopped onion, green onion, and garlic for a few minutes.
Add carrots, zucchini, red pepper, and celery. Cook for a few more minutes.
Stir in the minced meat and cook until browned.
Season with salt and add tomato paste, meat broth, and thyme.
Optionally, pour in a little wine for extra flavor.
Simmer until the sauce reduces and thickens.
Baking
Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F).
Transfer the cooked meat mixture to a baking dish.
