Ham and Feta Cheese Stuffed Buns (Chifle pufoase cu șuncă și brânză feta)
Ingredients
For the Dough:
100
milliliters warm milk
1
tablespoon sugar
5
grams dry yeast (or fresh yeast equivalent)
3
tablespoons flour (for starter)
100
milliliters melted butter
100
grams plain yogurt
450
grams flour (plus a bit more for kneading if needed)
½
teaspoons salt
1
whole egg
1
egg white (save yolk for brushing)
For the Filling:
150
grams feta cheese (crumbled)
100
grams cream cheese
50
grams grated mozzarella
5
slices of ham (cubed)
For Brushing:
1
egg yolk (from earlier)
For the Pan:
1
tablespoon oil (for greasing)
Instructions
Activate the Yeast:
In a large bowl, combine:
100 ml warm milk
1 tablespoon sugar
5 g dry yeast
2–3 tablespoons flour
Mix well and let sit at
room temperature for 10 minutes
to activate.
Make the Dough:
Add to the activated yeast:
100 ml melted butter
100 g yogurt
450 g flour
½ teaspoon salt
Mix with a spatula.
Add
1 whole egg + 1 egg white
and continue mixing until a dough forms.
Knead until dough becomes soft and no longer sticky.
Cover with plastic wrap and a towel. Let rise for
1 hour
.
Prepare the Filling:
In a bowl, combine:
150 g feta (crumbled)
100 g cream cheese
50 g grated mozzarella
5 slices ham (cubed)
Mix until well combined.
Shape the Buns:
Divide risen dough into
8 equal parts
.
Grease an oven-safe pan with
1 tbsp oil
.
Flatten each dough piece into a small circle with your fingers.
Place
1/8 of the filling
in the center.
Seal the dough tightly around the filling and place sealed-side-down in the tray.
Second Rise & Bake:
Let buns rise again for
15 minutes
.
Brush with the reserved
egg yolk
.
Bake in a
preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for 40–45 minutes
until golden.
Serve warm for maximum cheesiness and fluffiness!
