Ingredients
  • 700 grams grated apples (about 4-5 apples)
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon (optional, if allergic, omit)
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 4 large eggs
  • A pinch of salt
  • 100 grams sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 200 milliliters milk
  • 100 milliliters oil
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 300 grams flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional: lemon or orange zest)
  • Butter (for greasing the tray)
Instructions
  1. Prepare the apples:
    • Wash, peel, and grate the apples.
    • Measure 700 g of grated apples.
    • If the apples are sweet, no sugar is needed.
    • Add 1 tablespoon of cinnamon and the juice of half a lemon.
    • Set aside while preparing the sponge cake.
  2. Prepare the cake batter:
    • In a large bowl, crack 4 large eggs.
    • Add a pinch of salt and 100 g of sugar (adjust to taste).
    • Mix well.
    • Pour in 200 ml of milk and 100 ml of oil, then mix again.
    • Add 1 teaspoon of baking powder and 300 g of flour.
    • Mix until smooth and lump-free.
    • Add vanilla extract, and optionally, lemon or orange zest.
  3. Assemble the cake:
    • Grease a baking tray with butter.
    • Pour half of the batter into the tray.
    • Evenly distribute the grated apples over the batter.
    • Pour the remaining batter on top and smooth it with a spatula.
  4. Bake the cake:
    • Preheat the oven to 160°C (320°F).
    • Bake until it passes the toothpick test (insert a toothpick into the cake; if it comes out clean, it's done).
